Franz is a PhD student at the faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geoinformation at the University of Bayreuth. He is a geoinformation specialist who has built a reputation for delivering bespoke business solutions to the geospatial problem domain. He has a background in geographic information science and systems, and he has a strong research interest in spatial data. In 2006, he received his master's degree from the Civil and Geomatic Engineering, at the University of London and got appointed as a lecturer of geographic information systems at KAAF University, Ghana. There, he worked in academia, teaching various courses related to geoinformation and other related disciplines such as cartography and spatial databases. He has been teaching for ten(12) years at KAAF University and is now pursuing a PhD under the supervision of Junior Professor. Dr. Meng Lu at the University of Bayreuth and Prof. Dr. Ansgar Brunn.

His PhD proposal touches on slum identification and extraction and subsequent temporal analysis. He hopes to contribute to the area of research focusing on improving the methods and algorithms for feature extraction within slum or informal settlements. This leads me to my research priority currently; which is to look at improving effective image classification and feature extraction algorithms using machine learning. This, hopefully, will link to a study of the evolution of slums through the application of spatio-temporal analysis.

Franz is has a passion for mobile programming using android operating systems. Outside work, he is a class C chess player by his assessment. He loves doing sports and is the leader of a contemporary gospel music group, playing the keyboards
